The Public Garden, covering an area of 24
acres, is the most beautiful park in Boston,
and a profusion of colors is the result of the
multitude and variety of plants always in
bloom during the flower season. The Bronze
Statue of Washington, erected in 1869, and
located in the main path facing Arlington
Street Gate, is said to be the largest of its
kind in the world. The cost of this monument,
$42,000, was borne by popular subscriptions.
