FIRST BRICK HOUSE Built in 1849 by Duncan Dickenson, a Vir- ginian, and one of the survivors of the famous Donner Party, who came to California in 1846. The house as it stands, is only one wing of the building originally planned. With the Gold Rush in 1849, Dickenson left town, and never returned. B. W. WHITE, MONTEREY, CAL.
