Mission San Carlos De Monterey was founded in 1770 by Father Junipero Serra and later abandoned when he founded the Carmel Mis- sion in 1771. The Royal Presidio Chapel of Monterey now used as a place of public worship was built on the site of the old mission in 1794. B. W. WHITE, MONTEREY, CAL.
