THE DALTON GRAVE
Three of the bandits killed in the Dalton Raid of Oct. 5, 1892,
lie in Elmwood Cemetery, Coffeyville, Kansas. The body of
the fourth, Dick Broadwell, was taken by relatives to Hutch-
inson, Kansas, for burial. This headstone was erected in the
early 1930s by Emmett Dalton, lone bandit survivor of the
Raid. Prior to that, the graves were marked only by the bent
pipe in the upper left-hand corner. It was the hitching rack
used by the bandits. The stonecutter left the "s" off Powers'
name.
