Richard Day was a permanent settler and
built the Day house in 1752. He was the
first deacon of the church and was killed by
the falling of a tree on May 3, 1774. He was

On October 24, 1753, the first
Proprietors' Meeting was held within the
township at the house of Richard Day.
Voted: That the sum of three hundred
pounds old tenor be raised in order to for-
tify the township against Indian raids.
