In Utah the Seagull is sometimes referred to
12,043F
as the "Sacred Bird". In the spring of 1848 the
"Mormon" pioneers were hopefully looking for-
ward to a bountiful crop but large black crackets
came down the mountain sides in hordoso and
to , des 5
troy the pests met with failure, when the
gulls came, like great clouds, fell upon the PM
ckets and saved the crops. The people of utah
look upon this as a miracle, and the seagulles
are protected by law as a consequence.
