On tiny le Shima, a memorial stands in
memory of the friend of the fighting men of
World War II, Ernie Pyle. American Legion Post
No. 28, Okinawa, bought the land around the
memorial and has made it into a beautiful park,
which has been visited by hundreds of Americans
throughout the years. This memorial park is the
scene each year during the April 17 week-end of
memorial services for Ernie Pyle and his buddies.
