in Bloom •
When I go back I shall
not go alone,
Nor face alone the world's
unfriendly chill;
I shall remember Sierra
Madre's hill-
The crowning purple
aura, fully blown,
Of plumed Wistaria
mounting zone
on
zone ...
Oh, I shall carry pictures
which distil
Intoxicating fragrances,
and fill
The sullen hours with
thoughts which are
my own.
The lives we live are
tragedies of years-
From madcap spring to
frozen winter-time.
They pass like dust with-
in a sunlit room-
They pass, but through
the drama there
appears
A memory of fields where
roses climb;
And over
in bloom.
