The Hermitage, 12 miles from Nashville,
originally was built of logs in 1804, part of it
still standing. Here Aaron Burr was entertained
and it was here General Jackson returned the
conquering hero and idol of the nation after the
Battle of New Orleans. Present mansion, built
1819. Colonial architecture with wide and long
verandas and spacious rooms. Here Lafayette
was entertained in 1825. In the yard are the
graves of Andrew Jackson, his wife and other
members of the family.
