She was the world's best woman shot, by Stewart H. Holbrook. When she was almost 9, Phoebe Mozee took down the enormous cap-and-ball rifle that hung over the cabin fireplace, went out into the surrounding woods where she blew the tiny head off a running quail. The remains of that bird should have been stuffed and sent to the Smithsonian Institution, for it had served as the first target of the future Annie Oakley, "Little Sure Shot," the world's greatest markswoman and the sweetheart of generations of American males. Annie died in 1926, pretty much forgotten. Now, 20 years later, she is again one of the greatest personalities in show business. As the heroine of Annie Get Your Gun (portrayed by Ethel Merman)
