When she was almost 9, little Phoebe Mozee took down the enormous cap-
and-ball rifle that hung over the cabin fireplace, went out into the surrounding
woods where she blew the tiny head clean off a running quail. The remains of
that bird should have been stuffed and sent to the Smithsonian Institution,
for it had served as the first target of the future Annie Oakley, "Little Sure
Shot," the world's greatest marks woman and the sweetheart of generations of
American males. Annie died in 1926, pretty much forgotten. Now, 20 years la-
ter, she is again one of the greatest personalities in show business. As the hero-
ine of Annie Get Your Gun (portrayed by Ethel Merman), which will shortly
