HALL OF PHILOSOPHY. The historic Hall of
Philosophy, or "Hall in the Grove", stands in the
forest reservation called St. Paul's Grove. The
original building, modeled after the Parthenon at
Athens, has been reconstructed and made a per-
manent memorial to the founders of Chautauqua.
It was erected by popular subscription, and the
cost, including the balustrade and approach, was
about 20,000.
