ROARING MOUNTAIN.
Roaring Mountain, one of the wonders
of this park, located on the road be-
tween Mammoth Hot Springs and Nor-
ris Geyser Basin, is a high hill from
which there is a continual eruption of
steam, which produces the roaring sound
that gives it its name. A violent erup-
tion in 1902 created numerous fissures
from which steam issued in such quan-
tities as to kill all the trees on the
hillside.
