OVERFLOW FROM EXCELSIOR
GEYSER.
Excelsior geyser has been inactive since
1888, during which time it threw out an
immense volume of water and great
masses of rock, so that the crater was
greatly enlarged, and now, though in-
active, pours over 4,000 gallons of water
per minute into Fire Hole River. The
crater is twenty feet deep and has an
area of 330 by 200 feet. This was at
one time the largest geyser, in realty
a volcano.
