Construction on South Dakota's State Cap-
itol Building in Pierre, was begun in 1905
but it was not formally dedicated until June
30, 1910. The depth, east to west, is 297 feet
north to south, 142 feet: and the height is
165 feet. The super-structure is of Beford lime-
stone and the first story is of Marquette
raindrop sandstone. The total cost of the
building itself was slightly less than $1,000,
000.00 but an annex which was added re-
cently raised the cost by $400,000.00 more.
The interior of the Capitol Building has been
handsomely decorated with nine mural paint-
ings by America's noted artists.
