Scouts when going through the woods, if they are of sufficient
depth to make it necessary, blaze a trail by chipping the trees occa-
sionally on either side of their course. When an abrupt turn is to be
made such is indicated by marking with a strip of bark removed ex-
tending around the tree. When in camp the directions are shown by
marking on the shaded side of a tree at 6 A.M., 12 M. and 6 P.M.
