Scouts when pursued use various methods to conceal the track they make, carefully removing any broken twigs or stalks that have been trampled upon. When crossing a stream they wade up or down for some distance and upon leaving its course jump as far as possible from the stream over the edge of the bank, or swing themselves from the stream by the aid of overhanging branches - as shown in the picture - to avoid leaving traces of where they left the water. Again they make a detour that brings them on the flank of the pursuer |
