Additional Details:
The son of a mule-trader, Harry S Truman was born in a small house in Lamar, Missouri, on May 8, 1884. All through his early life, Truman was fascinated with learning. However, because of poverty, he was forced to discontinue his education and go to work as soon as he graduated from high school. Truman undertook a number of jobs, and was quite successful at most of them. However, it wasn't until 1922 that he found his life's true profession ... politics. It was only twenty-three years later than Harry S Truman became America's most important political figure - President of the United States. During the two terms that Truman spent in office, he was responsible for many new and important programs. However, perhaps his most famous labor was encapsulated in what is known as the Truman Doctrine. Briefly stated, this doctrine declared America's commitment to aid any nation in its fight for freedom. To honor this great American President, the United States Postal Service issued the stamp featured on this Maximum Card
