The Natives of Alaska no longer adhere to
their old custom of erecting totem poles. Keep
ing pace with the advance of civilization, they
have sought employment and built homes among
the settlements of the white man. Old Kassan is
one of the few villages in which the totem poles
are still intact and the old type of buildings have
not given way to the modern structures.
