Frink & Walker's Stage Coach Office, 1856 from a mural painting by Lawrence C. Earle The first stage coach line west from Chicago was established in 1834 by Dr. John L. Temple. John Frink soon established competing lines to Galena and all other important points in the west. He, with Martin O. Walker, quickly merged and fully controlled all the stage and mail contract business west of Chicago. Their Chicago office was at Lake and Dearborn streets and from it a vast system of stage lines was operated before the advent of the railroads. The Chicago Philatelic Society
