THE BIG LOCK IN THE LAKE WASHINGTON CANAL,
SEATTLE, U. S. A.
The Lake Washington Canal connects Puget Sound
with Lake Washington. The locks are located at Salmon
Bay. The large lock is 80 feet wide and 825 feet long.
It is divided into two chambers 450 and 375 feet long
respectively. The small lock which parallels the big one
is 30 feet wide and 150 feet long. The large lock can be
filled in eight minutes, the small one in five.
The Canal cost the Federal Government $2,275.000.
The right of way cost Seattle and King County $4,550.000:
excavation cost King County and the State $950,000.
