One of the most spectacular sights in North America
is to be seen at Grand Coulee Dam, where the overflow
from the now-full Columbia River reservoir, impounded by
the 1072 million cubic yard concrete structure, plunges
over the giant spillway. Nearly 2,000,000 gallons of water
fall over the man-made precipice with a tremendous roar
every second. Power is being developed in a large power-
house, flanking the cataract, in which three 108,000 kilo-
watt hydro-electric generators, largest ever constructed,
have been assembled.
