Decatur, founded in 1829, was named for
Commodore Stephen Decatur. Abraham Lin-
coln's first Illinois home was at Decatur. Here
he was first mentioned for the Presidency.
The log court house in which he practiced
law stands in Fairview Park. The present
population is 60,000.
