Gateway to the City of Tacoma. The gateway to
Tacoma is lower Pacific Avenue, leading from the Oriental
Docks to Pacific Avenue at South Seventh Street, which is
the northerly end of the city's business district. On the
left is a section of the longest wheat warehouse in the
world (2,350 feet long), erected by the Northern Pacific
Railway in 1900-1. On the right is the City Hall, containing
a beautiful memorial clock and chimes. From the northern
extremity of the city to South Tacoma is a distance of
ten miles.
