| The New $1,600,000 Matagorda County Courthouse, surrounded by beautiful pecan trees, was dedicated September 15, 1965 and replaced the original courthouse built in 1895 on the original courthouse square in Bay City. Historic monuments on the courthouse lawn honor ire Ingram. First Speaker of the House of Representatives; a monument of a Confederate Soldier; monument honoring Karankawa Indians; LaSalle and Stephen F. Austin's Colonists. |
