Hidalgo County, Edinburg, Texas. Hidalgo County is one
of the richest counties in the U. S., having exceeded any
county in shipments of citrus fruits and other agricultural
products. Cattle and oil are other leading economies.
Altitude 40 to 200 feat. Created in 1852 from Cameron
and Starr counties and named after Miguel Hidalgo y
Costilla, Mexican Patriot.
