THE STORY OF
LONDON'S
QUININE GIN
Origin and Background
Quinine Gin, for GIN AND TONIC, is made basically
with Gin and Imported Quinine.
The only source of quinine is Cinchona Bark, which
was first discovered in South America, by the Jesuit
Fathers, and originally introduced in Europe as early
as 1638.
The combination of gin, quinine, and soda for GIN
AND TONIC, very likely, was first devised by those
British, Dutch and Americans living in the widespread
tropical parts of the world, to mask the extremely
bitter taste of the quinine. At the same time, much to
their amazement and pleasant surprise, they dis-
covered that this combination resulted in a most
delightful drink that is tangy, cooling, and refreshing.
This knowledge they brought home and now GIN AND
TONIC, with its subtle flavor, cooling sensation and
extreme pleasantness, became one of the most popu-
lar warm weather drinks in this country.
Until now, the only method used to make GIN AND
TONIC was to combine regular gin with quinine water,
a carbonated water specially prepared for the pur-
pose. Now, however, GIN AND TONIC can be made in
a more modern, lasting way by using LONDON'S QUI-
NINE GIN, and any regular soda or even plain water.
Quinine is a substance that will not dissolve readily
in water, but is highly soluble in alcohol. It is this
that makes LONDON'S QUININE GIN the modern, more
desired way of preparing GIN AND TONIC, for the full
flavor remains permanently in the gin until the last
drop is consumed.
With LONDON'S QUININE GIN, the field of new taste
sensations is not limited to just GIN AND TONIC, but
other fascinating drinks are possible, as: "Quinine
Gin on the Rocks", "Quinine Gin Martini", and many
more.
