After crossing the Charles River to Charlestown, Massachusetts, Paul Revere galloped on through Somerville, West Medford, Menotomy (Arlington), Lexington and Lincoln on his mission to warn Concord. On his ride of over 12 miles he sounded the alarm "...the Regulars are coming!" He reached the parsonage in Lexington at midnight where Hancock and Adams were staying, having sounded the alarm at each farm and village he passed. Some that he met in route then rode off to the north and south spreading the alarm further
