NEW ENGLAND during the 1700s produced men
of courage and strength, who loved the sea for its
romance, adventure and danger. They were also
skilled in the art of ship building, and produced
maritime works that are still the wonder and admi-
ration of the world.
THE SHIP, an American Brigantine, is probably
the first square- rigged vessel constructed in more
than 100 years.
