Be Prepared! This is the Motto of the Boy Scouts of America. This view shows what is known as a "Man Hunt." A scout is given a message to deliver to the Military Commandant (who may be one of three farmers in the vicinity in which it takes place.) The scout has to deliver the message and have it endorsed with hour of arrival and return to the starting point in a given time. The scouts shown herein are called "Hostiles" and are sent to a point half-way and let go by a starter (shown in background) at the same time the scout leaves camp. They are to intercept him. If they catch him before delivering message he ransoms his life by paying an agreed forfeit. If he gets through but is overdue, it is called a draw. If he gets through on time he claims a reward from the hostiles.
