THIS IS THE MOTTO OF THE
BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

SAYTON
The above motto applied to this subject, shows what AUG 16
a Boy Scout has been taught to do in a case of lack of
matches, and where a fire is necessary, A shoe lace, a12
narrow strip of wood (about 27" long) and a block of wood
-with these he makes a drill and fire board and proceeds to
make a fire by friction. It has been stated, upon good
authority, that a scout has started a fire by this method in
thirty-one seconds. This is only one of the many accom-
plishments taught the Boy Scouts of America.
