The Royal Army Medical Corps. Many a good man's.
life could have been saved on the battle-field had an
adequate supply of doctors been available in earlier years,
when each regiment went on active service with but one
"surgeon," some with none at all! Of later years the
medical service has been organised on a better and more
scientific basis, and several years ago the Army Hospital
Corps was incorporated. Later it was known as the
Medical Staff Corps, and its present title is "The Royal
Army Medical Corps." The cap badge is the rod of
Esculapius and serpent entwined. It would be difficult to
find a much older origin for a badge, The Geneva Cross
is worn by all ranks (except officers) on the arm.
