I My family and I owned and Operated the Balkan Armenian Retardant, NYC, from 1945 to 1986. When I became legally blind, I had to sell the restaurant. 1½ years later, it went out of business after having been a NYC landmark restaurant since 1899.

Mr. Berberian, my father, Wilton G. Fritz, MD was a particularly enthusiastic customer of your restaurant. I remember with great fondness traveling there from our home in Brooklyn to eat there in the '50 and '60s. The food was amazing, and the greeting was always so warm. All the best, Carol A. From Dayton Ohio in the 50s to NYC my father let me tag along on oriental rug buying from exotic wholesalers. We would always dine at the Balkan for their great shish kabob

I remember going to the Balkan Restaurant in NYC as a little girl in the 1950's. After vacationing in Miami Beach, FL every April, my family always stopped to eat at the Balkan on our long drive home. I remember descending the stairs. I loved the stuffed mitya appetizer. I recently found out that my parents had their wedding reception there in March, 1946 after getting married in NYC's Holy Cross Armenian Church.
