* JACKSON HOLE *
ranging in altitude from 6244 ft. at Jackson
to 13,768 ft. at the top of the Grand Teton,
was named for David Jackson, early day ex-
plorer and trapper. Its miles of streams and
hundreds of lakes contain trout of nearly
every species. It is famous for big game, home
of the largest elk herd in the world, totaling
some 20,000 head. This herd winters and is
fed at the edge of Jackson. In this valley are
found deer, bear, both brown and grizzly,
moose, mountain sheep, ducks, geese, sage
chickens and grouse.
