A greater portion of the Great Southwest
before its industrial history began was a huge
cattle range, bounded only by the horizon.
For years immense herds roamed this region
without knowledge of any other food than nutri-
tious suncured Buffalo grass. The day of free
range-except in very few localities-has gone.
The cattlemen have learned the value of pedi-
greed stock and a finer grade of stock has taken
place of the long horned range cattle.
