Machine Gun Squad
Additional Details:
Series 2 Three men comprise a machine gun squad in the infantry - one to operate the gun, one to feed in the ammunition on the long belts, and one reserve. When on the march, the gun is "taken down" and divided between two of the men, while the third "packs" the ammunition. The present war has proved this gun so effective that in certain divisions of the European armies, rifles have been taken from the infantry and the troops divided up into machine gun squads of three men each. There are many different types and makes of machine guns, but those in general use in the United States army are the Lewis, the Maxim and the Colt - all three splendid weapons. |
