This crocodile was caught asleep ashore and killed with a high power Winchester rifle. These animals are very timid on land, but this one must have had a big meal of fish or human flesh, which caused it to fall asleep. The natives live in constant terror of crocodiles, and whenever they can, kill them with poisoned arrows. A young man is not considered a warrior until he has killed his first crocodile, which deed seems to make him particularly desirable as a husband.
