"THE SPANIARDS."--An 18th century tavern
with a name of uncertain origin. The Gordon
rioters stopped for refreshment here on their way to
destroy Lord Mansfield's country house at Ken Wood
after sacking his town house, 1780 (see "Barnaby
Rudge"). Here Mrs. Bardell was enjoying herself
when she was arrested (see "Pickwick Papers
Dick Turpin's pistols and other relics are shown here.
