Ashland on beautiful Chequamegon Bay,
surrounded by magnificent scenery, the center
of lakes and stream which abound in fish of
all kinds, the site of the first house built by
white men in Wisconsin, the city and shop-
ping center of the upper 13 area and the
finest harbor on the Great Lakes and one of
the finest harbors in the world. Legend re-
calls that Hiwatha's "Shining Big Sea Water"
was Chequamegon Bay, and that his path
crossed through Ashland.
