Bluffs at Makahuena - Island of Kauai. Makahuena (a
picturesque town on the Island of Kauai) affords a fine
view of the volcanic formation of the Hawaiian Islands,
the mountain scenery here being exceptionally beautiful.
At one time only native grass huts could be seen in the
valley, but these have given place to modern structures,
and in Makahuena are found many handsome residences.
The Island of Kauai contains 590 square miles, covered
with rich tropical
vegetation.
