MAIN BUILDING-FISK UNIVERSITY. Fisk University
founded in 1866, is an institution for the higher education of
colored men and women; it consists of five buildings
and has an attendance of over 400 students. The Main Buil-
ding is a monument to its founder, Geu. Clinton B. Fisk;
Gen. Fiske was an American soldier and educator, and his
sympathies enlisted help from Northerners, who contributed
the money necessary to found the University; he was its
president un his death.
