is the World's greatest monolith, and may
properly be called "EIGHTH WONDER OF
THE WORLD." It is seven miles around its
base and rises 800 feet above the surrounding
terrain, or 1600 feet above sea level. This
mountain figured in the Spanish Expedition
of De Soto about 1540. Indians established
signal and watch towers on its summit. A
huge Confederate Memorial is now being
carved on its sheer side.
