On the Carlsbad Caverns Highway. Stories of early days tell that the Indians built their signal fires on this peak, hence the name. It is the highest point in Texas, 8751 feet, and is just across the New Mexico line on the highways to Van Horn and El Paso from the Carlsbad Caverns. The desert cacti are native to the region.
