Additional Details:
An architectural triumph, the Nauvoo temple was begun in 1841, but its interior was never completed. Standing on the crest of the hill, it was 80 feet wide, 128 feet deep, and nearly 200 feet high. Conforming to modern architectural ideals its design was simple, having as its chief embellishments stone cuttings of the sun, moon and stars arranged as in the vision of the Apostle John seeing the church clothed in the sun, standing upon the moon, and with a crown of stars in her hair. The building was destroyed by fire and storm. The Nauvoo temple is a page out of the past, but the ideals of the church that built it are still perpetuated by the church, the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
