CUMBERLAND RIVER WHARF, NASHVILLE
14983
The Cumberland River on account of the
beautiful scenery along its rock-rimme banks
n has been called the classic Cumberland. The
Indians called it the "Warioto" and the
ABC12
called it Chauvenon." It rises in the Houn
tains of Kentucky and sweeps in a semi-circle
through Tennessee. Even the steamboats plie
controlled as large a fleet of steamers as
peared in any inland waters. The Federal go
gOV
ernment has spent several hundreds of
sands on its systems of locks and dams. It af-
fords navigation for 383 miles above Nashville
Fand to the Ohio river 250 miles below the city.
Tobacco, grain, live stock and lumber are the
main products
handled.
