The city of Augusta has over 75 miles of hard
surface paving. Broad Street, the principal busi-
ness thoroughfare, is 170 feer wide the widest
driving street in the United States. Augusta
was founded in 1735 by General James Edward
Oglethorpe, military governor and founder of
the Stare of Georgia. The city was named
after an English princess.
