Kinderhook-Home of Martin Van Buren. Martin
Van Buren, eighth President of the United States, was born
in the old town of Kinderhook, on the Hudson, Dec. 5th,
1782. He had no college education, but began to practise
law in 1803. In 1807, he married Hannah Hoes. She died
in 1819. After 36 years of active public life, Van Buren
returned to "Lindenwold," his fine estate at Kinderhook,
and here lived quietly and peacefully until his death,
July 24th, 1862.
