Sorrento. This lovely little town of Southern Italy, lying
in the lap of rich and luxuriant lemon and orange groves,
was the birthplace of Torquato Tasso (born 1544), the poet
Delivered" and the lover of Leonora
of Jerusalem
d'Este. There is a fine statue of him in the principal square
in the town. Sorrento is to Naples what the hills are to the
dwellers in the Indian plains: the breath of life and cool-
ness to people sickened with heat.
