193-TWO BRIDGES ON THE PECOS,
SANTA ROSA, NEW MEXICO
It is said by historians that at or about
this point, Coronado crossed the Pecos River
in 1541 on his fruitless expedition into the
Buffalo country, which is now Texas and
Kansas. Arriving in New Mexico in 1540 he
had established head-quarters and spent the
winter of 1540-41 near the present town of
Bernalillo.
Santa Rosa is a very old Spanish town on
the river, which at times is "dry" but mighty
during the rainy season when floods and
cloudbursts come from the mountains.
