DOCK LANDING OF THE "CLERMONT"
The "Clermont", the first boat propelled by
steam, required 32 hours to go to Albany from
New York City-about 150 miles. The fare was
$7., and freight was carried at the rate of
three cents a pound. Plying the same route or
the Hudson to-day are palatial steamboats, more
than three times the size, carrying 2000 pas-
sengers and making the trip easily in ten bours.
