WHARFBOAT AND U. S. LIFE SAVING
STATION. The Government maintains a Life-Saving Station
in Louisville, at the Falls of the Ohio. The structure contains
six rooms, equipped with life-boats, guns, mortars, breeches
buoys and all devices for saving lives and property. The
keeper of the station has six or seven surf men under him,
and has inspection over all customs and legal custody of all
materials washed ashore.
